Review & Photos: GWAR, Helmet, Savage Master

The one-and-only legendary, controversial, theatrical, intergalactic warlords and grotesquely costumed shock rockers GWAR—who have always brought humorous satirical horror antics through performance art to stages and have traditionally drenched fans (via fake blood from barbaric beheadings, limb removal and liquids from fake disembowelments of celebrities and political figures) since the mid-80s; yes, 40 years—visited Cleveland, Ohio’s Globe Iron on Sunday, Sept. 21; touring in support of the filthy thrash metal band’s latest release:  The Return Of Gor Gor  (Pit Records). Beca Stein (OOTB Publications)  documented the chaos and carnage: SO MUCH BLOOD!   Massacre!  Self-sacrifice from the front row!  Never a dull moment when GWAR stomps in town… or plummets into the galaxy from hell or space!?   The aliens give no mercy on those who continue to corrupt and destroy Earth.  Blood Vulture brought the stage to life with theater and aw...

Top 5 Feature: Dystopian Plague

The formation of Dystopain Plague was a complicated web—it was years in the making, involving a few different bands falling apart and combining. Starting in 2011 with the band End The Cycle, consisting of members: Tim Ray (vocals), Derrick Mares (guitar), Andy Pearce (guitar), Brandy Pearce (bass), and Josh Shultz (drums).  End The Cycle split up and Tim and Josh went to punk act Scare Me Green, while the Pearce brothers formed Manifest Destiny, with new members: Alex Jackson (drums), Austin Emahiser (guitar), and Jordy Townsend (bass).  Manifest Destiny and End The Cycle also split up, and members from both eventually formed Dystopian Plague, with the current lineup:  Tim Ray (vocals), Austin Emahiser (guitar), Josh Shultz (guitar), Zack Zelman (bass), Alex Jackson (drums) Dystopian Plague hails out of Findlay, Ohio; however, our members are scattered from Bradner, to Fostoria, to Findlay.  The beginning years of the band were slow, starting with just Alex Ja...

Top 5 Feature: Obsidian Mind

Obsidian Mind is a metalcore deathcore crossover band formed in 2019 in the Cincinnati, Ohio area.   With Influences ranging from Spiritbox to Oceano, this band has a little bit of everything core fans love—from melodic, catchy choruses, to devastatingly heavy breakdowns. Obsidian Mind's recent song " Lingering " is a deep, emotional ballad that reflects on the darker side of anxiety, depression, or fear that lingers and destroys a person over time. It is the first part in a double video feature, of which the second, "Immolate,” was released earlier this month. Watch both videos below. You can follow the band online to stay in the loop with new music and shows. Upcoming Shows Saturday, Oct. 11  The Portal in Louisville, Kentucky Saturday, Nov. 22  Fairborn Phoenix in Fairborn, Ohio Friday, Dec. 12  Manchester Music Hall in Lexington, Kentucky Connect With Obsidian Mind Facebook https://m.facebook.com/ObsidianMindOH/ Instagram https://www.instagram.com/obs...
