“Caught In The Crossfire” is the newest single from The Veer Union, and the production of this song is absolutely stellar.
A song about a relationship so complicated that it’s outright toxic, but the hypothetical couple sticks around for reasons rooted in better times.
The vocal performance is fantastic. The juxtaposition of clean vocals and screams are so tastefully balanced and blended together that I was impressed by the production of it.
Booming drums cut through the mix with a clarity I wasn’t expecting. Precise sporadic kicks blended with melodic tom work stood out to me as the kind of metal drums that keep me paying attention to the rhythm.
Guitars and bass tracks carry this song through a soundscape from melodic textures to the heaviest of rhythmic distortion. Various moving parts has me praising the mix of this song again. It’s all balanced so well.
The use of keyboards and electronics are used throughout the song and adds to the overall experience; filling spaces in a tasteful way, never overdoing it. Hats off to the production team on enabling this great song to shine.
There’s an accompanying music video that has some wonderful shots of the band in the woods. Watching the band play is my favorite part of the video, as it captures an energy I imagine they deliver on stage.
“Caught In The Crossfire” is pure quality, and The Veer Union has an upcoming record I’m excited to check out, as I’m left wanting more.
