Mark Your Calendar: Marky Ramone in Cleveland, Ohio

The Ramones’ legendary drummer Marky Ramone will perform classic songs of The Ramones on Thursday, Sept. 18 in Cleveland, Ohio at Beachland Ballroom.  Marky joined The Ramones in Spring 1978 after Dee Dee Ramone (bass, vocals) asked him to join the band while the two were together at CBGB in New York City. In a matter of weeks, Marky was in the studio recording his first album with The Ramones entitled,  Road To Ruin , which features one of the biggest Ramones’ songs “I Wanna Be Sedated.” The following year, The Ramones filmed the cult classic  Rock 'n' Roll High School . Later that year, they joined forces with producer legend, Phil Spector to record  End Of The Century . After several tours and two more studio albums, Marky was asked to leave the band 1983, only to rejoin his bandmates in 1987 until they decided to call it quits in 1996.  His tenure with The Ramones spanned a total of 15 years; performing over 1700 shows and more than 15 releases, inclu...

Top 5 Feature: Kali Dreamer

Kali Dreamer is the stage name of guitarist, vocalist, and Columbus, Ohio native Markise Johnson.  Kali’s early years were tinged with an interest in music, but it wasn’t until his discovery of Nirvana in his late teens that he would take up guitar and begin writing songs.  His releases over the years range from pop and hip-hop to alternative rock and post-punk. In 2015, Kali would begin his foray into the Columbus live scene by performing at open mic nights and house shows.  2022 would have Kali joining Non Entity, a label started by musician and producer Derek Christopher, who would assist Kali in the release of albums  October Requiem: 1988  and  Imperfect Dark .  Imperfect Dark , an album heavily inspired by gothic rock, would be the first time Kali reached out to other musicians for composition help, and would find assistance from longtime friend and bassist Kendall Denton.  Top 5 Kali Top 5 Movies: Donnie Darko Grindhouse 2007 (Death ...

Top 5 Feature: LameAssDads

LameAssDads (L.A.D.) is a pop-punk band from Toledo, Ohio whose members are, well… lame ass dads!  The band was formed in early 2021 when two friends, Ryan and Andy, decided they still had some gas in the tank for songwriting and creating. Now in their 40’s with real jobs, families, and responsibilities, they realized they still needed an outlet to get their adult angst out.  After writing and recording their debut album— Greetings From Nowhere, Ohio —they asked Tim, Dan, Joe and Benji to help them bring their songs to a live audience. Inspired by artists such as Blink-182, Bad Religion, MxPx, and Descendents, they began collaborating together on their first collection of original songs.  Together, they tackle topics of long sleepless nights, the hard but rewarding job of parenting, loss of loved ones, falling in love, personal growth, and remembering the glory days that led them to where they are now. They are currently taking an extended break from playing live t...

Top 5 Feature: Red Light Running

Red Light Running is an alternative rock band rising fast out of Columbus, Ohio, blending raw melodic grit with an acoustic edge.  Formed in 2024, the group brings a modern pulse to the spirit of ’80s and ’90s rock, drawing deep inspiration from the grunge and alternative icons that shaped a generation. At the center of it all is Brian Peirce, a seasoned performer with over a decade of experience on the mic and guitar. His songwriting is both visceral and vulnerable—backed by the heavy, hypnotic basslines of Peter Domin and the dynamic guitar textures of Matt Carrico, who gives each track a distinct emotional weight.  Together, they craft songs that are grounded, powerful, and sonically rich—music meant to move both your body and your brain. Their influences are as wide-ranging as their sound, channeling the energy of Chevelle, the intensity of System of a Down, and the melodic hooks of Third Eye Blind, while also tipping the hat to legends like Ozzy Osbourne, Danzig, a...
