From their initial formation onward, Lorna Shore has been no stranger to change—from the lineup to the very core of their sound, they have continuously evolved and shifted form to fit it.
This Friday, Sept. 12 we are seeing the release of I Feel The Everblack Festering Within Me (Century Media Records), following in a similar direction as 2023’s Pain Remains.
The album feels blackened, ambient and fairly explosive. It’s a no-breaks listen, with incredible and diverse vocals bouncing from guttural growls to pig squeals in an instant.
The brooding synth instills feelings of absolute despair and unending darkness. It feels thematically dark. “Oblivion” feels like death-tinged Black Metal, something I find appealing, with an absolutely disgusting breakdown in the third quarter of the track.
“In Darkness” is much more melodic in its delivery and makes for a fun breakaway from the themes we get at the very start of the album; it’s a bit more slowed down and the riffs are a lot more prevalent and clear. Some of the best use of synth ambience on the entire release can be found right here.
“Glenwood” sees another slow down, again getting more melodic and riffy. Spacious, open and breathing; showing the bands diversity. This track feels absolutely massive and borderline anthemic.
“Death Can Take Me” contains an incredibly cinematic opening, a choir in the background leads the listener into blast beats and dungeon-esque synthesizer before opening all the way up into sheer brutality.
With the ending track “Forevermore,” we get some of the most fun riffage of the entire album. With beautiful violin/cello paired into the slow breakdown, a tad bit of operatic background vocals leading back into the meat of the song. It’s rather beautiful and again cinematic in its delivery as it drives right back into full-brute force.
All together, I Feel the Everblack Festering Within Me is a fairly diverse sonic step forward for a band who has amassed a large fanbase and undergone so many changes.
It’s well worth the listen, and I can’t see any longtime fans or newcomers expressing much disappointment.
