This 28-year-old Philadelphian gets a fat gold star from me for his masterful music mixing, which he has done perfectly.
To mesh genres isn’t always the easiest way to go; different aspects can get lost or jumbled, making it difficult to hear all aspects. However, that doesn’t seem to be such a challenge for Matthew Cullen—better known as Zero 9:36–on his latest EP, They Were Always Here (OneRPM), releasing tomorrow, Friday, Dec. 12.
Crushing the rapping with sounds similar to NF or Eminem, the flow is clear and well delivered, emitting emotion with each line. Rapping alongside heavy drums and bass. Imagine Shinedown or Nickelback collaborating with Eminem or NF with Three days Grace.
This album is an amazing mixture. Some highs and some lows. Some fast, some slow. All fantastic. I listened to the album several times and found something new I liked every time.
Give me new and different and I will always be impressed—be new and different and give this album a listen.
Every song is just long enough to leave a good taste in your mouth; no repeating the chorus four times or beating lyrics into your head, just good quick tunes.
