Album Review: Sabaton, Legends

By Brandi Genzen, OOTB Publications

Sabaton is one of Sweden’s most successful power metal bands. Having debuted in 2005 with the album Primo Victoria, they are no strangers to success.

Tomorrow—Friday, Oct. 17–marks the release of their 11th studio album Legends (Better Noise Music). This award winning band has once again brought the fire.

The storytelling of history throughout the album sounds larger than life—as if only a cathedral could withstand the greatness of the sound, sending an echo through the hollow of your chest that makes you feel your whole being vibrate.

The sound of the choruses will leave you in awe. They swell louder and louder until you feel as though you entered an alternative universe; a universe where there are heros and villains, otherworldly characters of both legend and history.

The whole album made me feel like I was a viking or cast member in Braveheart. Every track was equally beautiful and theatrical.

"Templars" is my favorite song, it drew me right in. Every track after was just like icing on the cake. Sweeter and sweeter. “The Cycle Of Songs” was my second favorite song.

There is just something special to the sounds that come from Sweden, Ireland, Scotland and the like; something ancient mixed with today’s technology, bringing heavenly sounds and heartfelt lyrics.
