Album Review: Blacklist Union, Slay The Dragon

By James Magill, OOTB Publications

Slay The Dragon is the latest release from Blacklist Union, and it's an album I found difficult to connect with. It took three or four attempts before I was able to make it all the way through.

To be clear, it’s not a bad album. It’s just not a particularly good one either. It feels generic and bland, lacking the emotional punch or memorable moments that make a record stand out.

None of the tracks really grabbed me; there’s no strong hook, no song that lingers after the music stops. With twelve tracks that share a similar and overly familiar vibe, nothing managed to break through the noise.

I typically judge albums by how many songs I skip and whether I’m left wanting to hear more. While no track was outright terrible or made me turn it off, I don’t feel compelled to revisit this album anytime soon.

After dwelling on it, I realized it plays more like a weak homage to 90’s grunge than a fresh or inspired take on the genre.
