My metalhead days are long gone. I don’t have the energy or the mindset to be in the pit anymore, moshing and headbanging with the rest of the crowd.
But, sometimes, especially behind the wheel, it feels damn good to let loose—guttural vocals, thundering drums, foot a little heavy on the gas, dodging traffic and ignoring the posted speed limit.
Savage New Times (Reigning Phoenix Music) by Incite was spinning this morning as I drove to work, sipping a white Monster and banging my head like it was 2005 again.
The band’s vocalist is Richie Cavalera, stepson of Max Cavalera (frontman for Soulfly and Sepultura). Side note: Once in high school, on a mission trip, we somehow convinced our youth pastor that Sepultura was a Brazilian Christian metal band. We blasted metal at the jobsite all week. It was glorious.
Turns out, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Incite brings that same aggressive metal energy from start to finish. Ten tracks, deep growls, pounding drums, and absolutely shredding guitar riffs.
“Just a Rat” and “No Mercy, No Forgiveness” are already out there, so if you're curious, start with those. And when the full album drops this Friday, give “Dolores” a spin—it’s got a slightly different vibe that stood out to me in a good way.
