Album Review: Dropkick Murphys, For The People

Written By Christian Cole, OOTB Publications

The ever-iconic Celtic Punk band hailing from Quincy, Mass., Dropkick Murphys, are dropping their latest full-length LP For The People this 4th of July and the release date is just as symbolic as the tracks included.

The American Celt-rockers are giving us an album loaded to the brim with a fight for the working class, with energy as high as any releases prior, if not even more-so.

The Massachusetts’ natives are just as upfront as ever before with a message as plain as day; to take back the power they’ve so blatantly deprived us of. And it works.

If you can manage to get through this LP without feeling moved to fight a forgotten cause, you very well may be deaf. While we do get some very good drinking songs and fun moments, this album is all about giving ourselves back the respect we as the working class have had so violently stripped away from us.

It’s not only a protest, it’s a dedicated message. It’s one of the best listens we’ve received from these boys in a solid while.

Dropkick Murphys have always laid at the forefront of the Celtic-punk movement for two decades or more now and For The People is here to remind us all of why.

Lyrically, musically, and thematically it is dedicated, moving, and precise. It’s an album that we as blue collar, and even SOME white collar NEED to hear, no; NEED to LISTEN to.

It’s as poignant and poise as Woody Guthrie’s greatest, just much more in-your-face and prominent for modern times. A necessity.

Listen closely, watch the world around you, and enjoy the energy that Dropkick Murphys are still putting into the music and message they’ve ALWAYS backed.

Get out this July 4th and support a band who supports YOU.
