Pecos And The Rooftops has a sound that’s hard to describe. I’ve heard their music called red dirt, country rock—but what has always struck me is its roadhouse vibe. Strong country roots, solid rock riffs, a bluesy undertone, and a frontman with a velvet voice.
Formed in 2019, they released their EP Red Eyes and kicked off a strong start to what’s shaping up to be a great career.
“This Damn Song” is a blues ballad that tells a story of heartbreak almost everyone can relate to. It’s a platinum hit. But the first song I heard was “Lonely When I’m with You”—an emotional masterpiece that tugged on my heartstrings. It made me a fan.
I saw them for the first time in 2022, and it was an emotional experience. I remember standing in the crowd as they closed with “This Damn Song,” and I couldn’t stop myself—I nearly broke down sobbing. It was cathartic.
I saw them again in 2023 and 2024, after the release of their first full-length, self-titled album. Each show was better than the last, with an even bigger crowd.
Which brings me to the show on May 23, 2025 at The Bluestone.
The opening band was Eddie And The Getaway. They played a quick set—the last few songs really rocked. For the second show in a row, I heard a cover of “Lips of an Angel.” Their final two songs had some Van Halen-esque guitar riffs and brought a party atmosphere to the room. Since that show, they’ve earned a spot on my Spotify playlist.
Then came the headliner.
Loud guitars, a phenomenal light show (especially in such a beautiful venue)—Pecos & The Rooftops put on one hell of a show. They also attract a diverse crowd.
They played a set that lasted nearly two hours, and the audience was engaged and entertained the whole time. From a song that creatively used the chorus from “Sweet Caroline,” to Foo Fighters covers like “My Hero” and “Everlong” (performed while someone brought fresh beers to the band), to a rocking rendition of “Indian Outlaw,” the band nailed their crowd interaction and seemed genuinely appreciative.
Frontman Pecos Hurley was energetic and excited. He has a voice made for roadhouse blues, and it’s a pleasure to watch this band perform.
Great bands. Great venue. A great time.
