Concert Review: Jet at Kemba Live! in Columbus, Ohio

Written By James Magill, OOTB Publications

A balmy Saturday night, June 7, and I’m headed to a friend’s house a few miles from Kemba Live! in Columbus, Ohio.

“Ever ridden one of those scooters?,” he asked.

Half an hour later, after a harrowing ride through traffic—praying someone wouldn’t turn unannounced—we arrived.

I made my way to the ticket booth, gave my name, and was handed something I hadn’t seen in nearly ten years: an actual paper ticket. It made my heart happy.

Kemba Live! is a great venue—small enough to feel intimate and cozy, but large enough to capture that big-band energy.

Jet brought exactly that.

From start to finish, it was a goddamned rock-and-roll show. The band tore through nearly 20 songs, each delivered with precision, attitude, and raw emotion. Of course, they blazed through their biggest hits—“Are You Gonna Be My Girl” and “Cold Hearted Bitch”—but, they gave the same energy to every track, which isn’t always the case.

They bantered with the crowd, cracked jokes, and played at breakneck speed. They performed a hefty chunk of their first album, slipped in a few other great tunes, then returned for a three-song encore, closing with a frenzied cover of AC/DC’s “It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Want to Rock ’n’ Roll).”

Jet was a band in their element—feeding a crowd hungry for rock, and delivering every damn note.
