Tomorrow, acclaimed UK R&B soul artist Victor Ray is releasing I WILL. (Decca Records/Capitol), the fourth and final part to his personal EP series. The four thematically interconnected EPs (i was., i felt., I TRIED., I WILL.) document different facets of his life story and personal growth to date.
The Uganda-born and New Castle, England-raised artist—who got his start with busking while in high school—launches his first headlining tour in North America next month, stopping in Los Angeles, Chicago, Toronto, Brooklyn.
Victor Ray is no stranger to the stage as he has toured across Europe having sold-out shows, and he opened for Teddy Swims’ 2024 UK Tour.
Just before kicking off his April tour in France, Victor Ray took some time out for this OOTB interview to discuss all things I WILL., the I AM. Tour, and his non-stop music making plans through the year.
We are thrilled for the new EP and the I AM. tour! Your EP album series has been fantastic. With I WILL. releasing [tomorrow], what do you hope listeners take away from this particular EP?
I hope that this final piece can really give my listeners a feeling of hopefulness. Honestly, I want people to listen to this project and feel like they can walk on water! This is it. We’ve done the work and now we show the world what we’re made of.
Out of all the four EPs in this collection of sorts, what is your favorite song or songs and why those songs?
Damn, that’s like picking a favorite child.
Okay, I think I’ll go with “Popcorn and a Smoothie” because it’s the most real. “World At My Feet” because it gets me hyped. And, “Stay for a While” because it’s the one I never thought would be as popular as it is!
With your I AM. North America Tour leg being your debut for headlining shows in the states, what can fans expect from your live performance?
Soul! I try my best to give it in my records, but nothing hits more than the live show. It’s what I was meant to do. My fans can expect to smile, dance, laugh and really feel if I do my job right.
What are your next plans following this tour and album release—both musically and personally?
After this tour I’ll be finishing up my mixtape, which I plan to drop in the summer. Then, I gotta finish writing my first studio album which should come out in 2026! To be honest, my music life sums up my personal life too.
