Interview: ColdWards' drummer Paul Crosby discusses new song, working with his son, band evolution, next plans
Since releasing their debut single “Say Something” late Fall 2021, Houston, Texas’ hard rock band ColdWards (pronounced Cold-Words) has continued to garner notoriety.
The band is composed of father-son duo Paul Crosby (drums) and Zac Crosby (vocals), along with Richie Hey (bass) and Michael Friese (guitar). Paul drummed for Saliva between 2000-2022.
The quartet recently collaborated with Gemini Syndrome vocalist Aaron Nordstrom for chart-topping single “Last Of Me”—a single that continues to propel itself on playlists across many active radio outlets.
In this OOTB interview, Paul Crosby discusses the new song, evolving as a band, working with his son, and future plans for the band.

How did the collaboration come together with Gemini Syndrome’s Aaron Nordstrom for “Last Of Me”?
I have always loved Aarons vocals, so I personally reached out to him and sent him the rough song idea and he loved it.
Aaron and Zac worked together on the lyrics and melodies and really brought the song to life.
What do you hope listeners take away from “Last Of Me”?
Our hope is always that the listener makes a personal connection with the song and can relate it to something specific going on in their life and the song helps them get through it or it reminds them a good memory or time in their life.
How would you say your sound has progressed from 2022’s Bloodwork album to 2024’s “Sunflower” song?
We have all matured a lot as writers and our sound has definitely morphed into a more active rock vibe with bigger vocal hooks and less screaming.
We hope to appeal to a bigger audience in the future.
What’s it like working together sharing musicianship as father-son?
It's literally the best thing ever! I was gone a lot touring with Saliva when Zac was little, so it's great that we get to spend this time working on music together!
I think every dad dreams about doing something they are passionate about with their kids.
What’s been the biggest struggle you’ve encountered as a band? And how have you overcome that or are overcoming that?
We haven't really had any struggles since we do this solely because we want to. We write music we love and release it because we are passionate about it with no ulterior motives. If the music becomes successful, then that's amazing, but that's not our main objective.
I guess the only struggle is the fact that Zac lives in Memphis and the band is a Houston band, but that's what planes are for!
Looking into the rest of the year, what’s your next plans?
We are going to focus on releasing our EP this summer and playing a handful of shows and then start releasing songs for the follow up EP. Basically, just keep doing what we have been doing.
Is there anything you’d like to add?
I would just like to ask anyone who reads this to go check out our music and videos and follow us on all social media outlets if you like what you hear.
