Album Review: Sting, 3.0 Live

A live album can be tricky, and for an aging hit-maker, maybe even particularly so. 

Sting 3.0 Live, the latest live record from Police frontman and long time solo artist Sting, is a show of that—while not particularity unlistenable, it surely holds no candle to the younger years. 

Sting and his band lead us through a solid list of fan favorites and hit songs, which seemingly sets us up for a great listen. But, while there are some shining moments, the band often feels lackluster and the vocals only weakening with age. 

“Fields of Gold” is a solid highlight for the album, the guitar tone is smooth and silky and it finds Sting’s voice fitting better here than anywhere else in the album. 

It’s not a complete loss, it’s not horrendous, but it doesn’t scratch the itches I expected. It feels so wrong to hear someone else playing where Stewart Copeland should be, and maybe that subtracts something?

While I hope that longtime fans find this to be phenomenal and something they longed for, it was hard for me to find many positive notes. 

Some sounds age well and some don’t, and in my opinion, this is one for the latter half.
