So, my good buddy Neil sent me a list; just a few upcoming albums with a brief description. One that caught my eye was this album by Another Damn Disappointment (A.D.D.). It was described as a punk band, so I said, “What the hell?,” with a shrug.
I like punk—from The Ramones and the Misfits to the Meteors and Green Day, I’ve banged my head and raged to them all.
Bedlam (Disappointed Records) is 15 tracks, 45 minutes. Sounds about right—three minutes per track. Just enough to infuse you with energy and hate for authority.
The opening track is short, a call-and-response type deal with a live audience, but then the album kicks into exactly what I was expecting: punk rock with loud guitars, a few songs with a hair metal vibe, and just filled with raw energy.
The 7th track, “Runnin’ Dry,” speaks to the working-class grind, and the 8th, “All the Way Down,” strikes me as a mental health anthem. The final track, “I’m Alright” is a slightly somber song that strikes an emotional chord as being a divorced dad.
Songs run the gamut—from rebellion to discontent to love songs. In the week prior to writing this, I listened to the album at least three or four times, each in its entirety, headbanging and eventually singing along.
I thoroughly enjoyed this album. It delivers 15-tracks of punk rock, and those tracks are full of spite, emotion, and rebellion. Definitely going to be on rotation for a while.
