On the heels of finishing up a West Coast tour, singer-songwriter and glam post-punk rocker Kit Major took some time out to discuss rock-and-roll, the LA band’s latest 6-song EP Love.Sick.Major, her influences and plans through the year.
What do you hope listeners take away after listening to Love.Sick.Major?
I hope that beyond just enjoying the tunes and having fun in the semi-sparkly, grungy world these songs live in, this EP inspires listeners to challenge expectations—both in music and in life.
While touring, I met people who assumed we fit neatly into ‘pop’ or ‘rock,’ and I loved proving those assumptions wrong. This EP has been a deeper exploration of writing rock music on my own terms, and through it, I’ve learned how fluid labels really are.
I hope my music encourages others to tear down preconceived ideas and dance to new ones.
What’s your personal favorite track on the new EP and why that song?
I think I have two answers to this question since we perform so many of these differently live.
On the recordings, my personal favorite may be “Garbage Planet.” From a lyrical and musical standpoint, I love it and it’s one of my all time favorite guitar solos. That song brought new connections with listeners this year. I met a couple people while on tour who told me that song helped get them through stressful times.
My favorite track from the EP to play live is “In A Polite Way;” it’s very wild and cathartic.
What do you think is missing from today’s rock-and-roll genre and what do you add to it?
I think being okay with making a mess and blending genres and adding personality over mystery is what is missing.
I would rather lose people who don’t get my music or like me than hide who I am. Adding your own perspective to the scene is what helps make it grow.
When and what was it that made you say, “I want to make music and perform?”
I’ve always been incredibly into music and watching people perform so I don’t remember a distinct moment.
I do think a big part of it must have been owning three Britney Spears concert DVDs though, that was a big contribution fersure.
What can audiences expect at live shows?
Audiences can expect a big rock ‘n roll dance party filled with guitar solos, dance breaks, platform boots and random one liners.
After this tour, what are your plans and goals for the rest of 2025?
We have a residency at The Redwood Bar in Los Angeles every Tuesday in March filled with other rock ‘n roll acts.
After that, we’ll be putting out some more singles and hopefully playing some festivals, that’s my goal.
Is there anything else you’d like to add?
