Blending electronic/metal, rock/pop, four-member band Aeternum is set to release “Voodoo Doll,” their brand new single this Friday; the song was tracked at Sunshine Studios Live in Colorado Springs.
Following the song release—which is produced by Scott Wilson, who has been leading the team alongside Billy Dale at Random EQ—the band is joining A Killers Confession and VentanA for an extensive tour that kicks off in April.
In this interview with lead vocalist Kayla Smith, she details the new song, speaks on the upcoming tour supporting A Killers Confession and previews 2025.
What do you hope listeners take away after listening to the upcoming single “Voodoo Doll” releasing this Friday, Feb. 21?
After listening to "Voodoo Doll," I hope listeners walk away with a sense of empowerment and a bit of fun.
The song playfully taunts the relentless attention that can sometimes feel all-consuming, almost as if there's an accidental spell cast on those who can't seem to resist it. We wanted to capture that energy in a way that's lighthearted but with a message—kind of like a cheeky wink to the whole thing.
It’s energetic from start to finish, and I think that relentless drive gives it that perfect replayability factor. The goal is to keep people coming back, not just because of the beat, but because they can relate to the story and feel the energy every time!
How would you say the new song compares to your overall sound and how it was approached—lyrically and musically?
With “Voodoo Doll” we wanted to dive a bit deeper into an anthem feel and explore some more industrial touches to the overall sound.
The story shows a bit more angst and attitude that we continue to explore in more music to come. The playful taunt is starting to feel like a signature of ours, written throughout different elements of our other records!
Joining A Killer’s Confession this spring, how did everything come together to be part of that tour?
We’ve got a nice catalogue of music built up that we’re eager to share, so naturally touring is a pivotal step in making that happen.
Our producer, Scott Wilson (Saving Abel, former Tantric) has been pivotal in making that happen, and just preparing us each step of the way.
We’ve been putting out some feelers for a while—it’s really such an honor to be joining A Killer’s Confession and VentanA on this tour!
What can concert goers expect at your live shows?
Our live shows really tie our fierce image, sound, and message together into one high energy, captivating experience!
We’ve been very lucky to develop a trust within each other as a band; allowing us to take risks, experiment in exciting ways, and deliver a memorable performance to every new stage.
After this tour, what are some of your plans for the rest of 2025?
We’re excited to continue rolling out the songs we’ve had in the works this year. Since this band formed, we really haven’t stopped writing, so that will definitely continue throughout the year.
The chance to discover more elements of our sound really pulls us back into the studio. We feel very prepared and motivated to reach new audiences in 2025 both during and after the tour!
