Album Review: Lacuna Coil, Sleepless Empire

Written By Brandi Genzen, OOTB Publications

Lacuna Coil will release its 10th full-length album Sleepless Empire (Century Media Records) tomorrow: Feb. 14, 2025.

Lacuna Coil stands for “empty spiral.”

This Gothic metal/alt metal group originated in Milan, Italy; debuting in 1994 and proving Gothic is forever.

In their fourth decade they continue to have a unique and flavorful sound. The dual male and female vocals are both elegant and eerie. A glorious combination that send chills down one’s spine.

Giving Lycan and Vampire vibes, I could easily see this album as a soundtrack for a current day horror film. Artistic as a whole, the album includes plenty of orchestra, beautifully rhythmic drums and a theatrical flare.

For this Sleepless Empire to be released on Valentine’s Day is like a cherry on top for this gal here. I will be having my favorites, “I Wish You Were Dead” and “Sleep Paralysis,” on my playlist. Definitely give this a listen!
