This week sees Ohio pop punkers ATTN Deficit Squirrel releasing their latest single “Callin’ in Sick,” and with it we get a good show of Ohio’s musical diversity.
Ohio has always been a hotbed for local artists of all genres, so it’s no surprise seeing stellar pop punk owning its spot on that list.
ATTN Deficit Squirrel’s “Callin’ in Sick” harkens back to the heyday of pop punk, teeming with this late 90s, early 2000s glimmer that suits them so positively.
With crunchy power chords, keys leading the melody, and a delivery that reminded me of a punky John Darnielle, I was reeled in rather swiftly.
“Callin’ in Sick” is short, punchy and relatable all in all. I mean, who hasn’t called in sick to get a good day for themselves? This is prime time pop punk at its finest.
We will certainly be looking forward to future releases from these fine Ohio gentlemen, anthemic pop punk with a side of nostalgia? I’m all in.
Get on over to your favorite steaming service now so you can give this single a listen for yourself, if you’ve got a heart for pop punk, you’ll find this earworm in your playlist soon I’m certain.
