Phantogram brought KEMBA Live! to life in Columbus, Ohio on a dreary autumn Sept. 23 with a rousing performance of electronic rock from their six albums, with an emphasis on 2014’s Voices and 2016’s Three.
The multi instrumental duo—Sarah Barthel and Josh Carter—sounded fresh and made the crowd feel invigorated.
Show starter “Fall In Love,” along with “You Don’t Get Me High Anymore,” “Come Alive” and a slew of others, filling an almost 90-minute set, got the crowd moving, virtually turning the venue into a nightclub.
No Big Grams (Phantogram and Big Boi 2015 collab) songs were performed.
The music, the strobes, the thick fog created a perfect atmosphere of ecstasy for what felt like a Friday night out clubbin’; but rather, it was a Wednesday night… and the place was still packed like a Friday.
“Everytime we go to Ohio, we know you’re gonna show up,” smiled Barthel.
The duo is independently all their own, but think Metric and Mike D, with a bit of darkness and lavish bliss.
Sporting an Ohio State ball cap and dancing across the stage, Killskywalker warmed up the crowd with solo rapping—many tracks about love and money—over his produced beats for an energetic 45-minutes. At one point, he jumped off stage and went into the crowd.
