Album Review: The Calling, Before The World Turns To Dust

The Calling is releasing its first album in over two decades this Friday, Sept. 25. This comeback differs from others.

Before The World Turns To Dust (TLG | Virgin Music Group) creates hope for those who have had a rough road, both physically and mentally.

Alex Band (founding singer and writer) was diagnosed with Parkinsons. The devastating news was received shortly after The Calling’s second album and Alex Bands’ solo album released in 2010.

Well, that didn’t stop Alex Band or his love for writing and music. Alex worked up until 2018 to improve motor skills. The improvement led to Alex being able to not only write again, but also to perform.

Before The World Turns To Dust consists of 15 inspiring songs—filled with real life struggles, ups and downs and hope.

“Finally,” the second song of the album, is most relatable. Reminding us that even when you fall you have the ability to get back up and try again. Do not be defeated by life, instead adapt and overcome.

Alex Bands’ voice throughout the album is almost hypnotic in its tone and delivery. So real and emotional, yet so calming.

The band played feelings into their instruments. The whole effect will leave you deep in thought.

I would recommend listening alone and without distraction, so that you can hear and feel the energy and thought into Alex’s writing—inspiring humans to inspire.
