Hailing from the UK, The Rock Orchestra brought their unforgettable, extravagant Arena Of Fire production to The Rose Music Center in Huber Heights, Ohio on Thursday, Aug. 27 as part of their extensive tour that continues through mid-December.
The immersive show was presented like a rock opera or a theatrical Broadway musical with all fourteen or so performers wearing dark gothic outfits and apparel, while covering visages with masks and makeup.
There was pyro galore with uprising flames, fire balls, a row of fire, and fire spinners (The Fuel Girls) that moved across the stage with Cirque du Soleil flare.
Can’t forget fire eating, flag spinning, sparkler spinning, interpretive dancing and occasional Lindsey Stirling style resemblances.
Each of the decade-spanning hard rock cover songs had unique classical string crossover interpretations, but never lost any of the original songs’ aesthetic.
Not only were strings present, but there was also a superb brass section with standout horn and wind solos that added pasazz.
The triumphant orchestral tributes to the well known rock and roll hits were fronted by five powerful lead voices, sometimes as duos, and a small choir ensemble.
Some songs performed during two separate hour long sets between a 15-minute intermission included: “Last Resort” (Papa Roach), “Freak On A Leash” (Korn), “Bring Me To Life” (Evanescence), “Chop Suey!” (System Of A Down), “Numb” (Linkin Park), “Paint It Black” (Rolling Stones), “Kashmir” (Led Zepplin), “Dream On” (Aerosmith), “Thunderstruck” (AC/DC), “Nothing Else Matters” (Metallica), “Welcome To The Jungle” (Guns N’ Roses).
After forming six years ago by Nathan Reed (managing director of London’s MEGA Events), The Rock Orchestra has garnered distinguished credibility and buzz, and after seeing the visual show and hearing the live musicianship, such notoriety is well deserved.
