Country music sibling duo Brothers Osborne (TJ and John) rocked Rose Music Center in Huber Heights, Ohio on Friday, Aug. 28 with a lively performance of all their hits and then some.
John’s frequent lead guitar solos were sharp and fiery and TJ’s deep twangy lead vocals sounded fresh and energetic.
The setlist included new song “Bottle It Up,” (which TJ mentioned was only their second time performing it live), as well as covers of Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down” and Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds,” which slid into 2016 hit “Rum” and U2’s “Pride,” which transitioned to fellow Pawn Shop hit “Stay A Little Longer,” with a little OH-IO shout out.
The backing band was solid and had time to rock out solos and shine. A brief interlude performance of Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5” and a band introduction was mixed in. Before the encore, the chorus of “I Will Always Love You” was strummed and greeted with cheers.
Other songs performed included: “21 Summer,” “It Ain’t My Fault,” “Headstone,” “Shoot Me Straight,” “Weed, Whiskey, and Willie,” “All Night,” and more.
Since forming in 2012, the brothers have received many accolades, including: a dozen Grammy nominations, a Grammy win in 2022, six ACM awards and five CMA Awards.
In a 2021 Time magazine article, TJ came out as the first publicly gay man signed to a major country music label.
Nashville singer songwriter Nathan Cox, by way of High Point, North Carolina, opened with a relaxed forty minute set of acoustic originals with a backing vocalist and guitarist.
Cox’s strong vocals—at times reminiscent of Hozier and Nick Thomas (The Spill Canvas)—echoed through The Rose as he performed many songs, including a fun crowd singalong cover of John Denver’s traditional “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” his song “Appalachian Trees,” which he dedicated to late great Appalachia Queen Dolly Parton and uplifting set closer “Carry On.”
