Blossom Music Center in Cleveland, Ohio was the place to be Thursday, July 30 as the amphitheater was filled with extraordinary voices of women who rock: Evanescence, Spiritbox, Nova Twins.
Nova Twins opened with an energetic, animated performance—drums, bass, guitar and dual vocals between frontwomen Amy and Georgia.
The trio ignited hard hitting electronic beats on the verge of industrial noise rock; in the vein of Mindless Self Indulgence, Five Knives and moments of Methods Of Mayhem, considering occasional hip-hop style layers.
In addition to being part of global festival lineups, Nova Twins will continue touring overseas with Evanescence in September.
Spiritbox’s metalcore blend rocked the stage with aggressive syncopated distorted guitars and Courtney LaPlante’s live mix of heavy growls and screams that slid into clean, hypnotic melodic choruses.
Backing strobe flashes occasionally fully lit the band’s dim stage.
LaPlante expressed gratitude to be part of a tour with Evanesence. “It’s great to look out and see so many women,” she said to the estimated crowd of 16,500.
Spiritbox will tour overseas with Jinjer and Dying Wish starting September.
Two time Grammy winners Evanesence dominated the stage with classically trained pianist Amy Lee’s passionate, jaw dropping, album quality vocal intensity, along with the band’s fierce energy—bassist Emma Anzai (former Sick Puppies), drummer Will Hunt and guitarists Tim McCord and Troy McLawhorn.
The band’s well-received new album Sanctuary, released last month, was the setlist’s focus, along with past hits, including: “Bring Me To Life,” “Call Me When You’re Sober,” “Like You,” Better Without You,” “Lithium,” “My Immortal,” “Going Under” and others.
Spread across the elaborately lit downward sloped ramp platform, each band member, wearing all black, gave it their all, and together they sounded flawless.
Bursts of pyro and later confetti showers complimented the vigor of some songs.
With a theme of togetherness, LaPlante and the Nova Twins joined Lee for a crowd cheering solid version of Lee’s K.Flay collab, “Fight Like A Girl.”
Through lighter intimate moments and heavier intense moments alike, Evanescence delivered an unforgettable vehement performance from every facet of production—both sonically and visually.
Evanescence continues their world tour overseas in September with Poppy, K.Flay and Nova Twins.
