Platinum-selling country music artist Cody Johnson rocked a full house in Columbus, Ohio during Night One of Two at Nationwide Arena on Friday, July 17.

Due to an eardrum rupture late last year, Johnson was forced to cancel those remaining tour dates; however, he quickly rescheduled his double Columbus’ run, and the 9-month wait was well worth it for the floor-to-ceiling packed crowd.

The Texas’ musician’s setlist included songs from some of his ten studio album releases, including hits and crowd favorites: “‘Til You Can’t” (2023 Grammy-winning Best Country Song), “The Fall,” “The Painter,” “Dear Rodeo,” “With You I Am,” “Dirt Cheap,” “Diamond In My Pocket,” “Me And My Kind,” and many others.

Johnson also performed a handful of songs from his childhood inspired 16-track new album Banks Of The Trinity (CoJo Music, Warner Records Nashville), released late last month; including lead single, “Horseback,” along with “Fool Proof” and “Take Me Back.”

The humble 39-year-old headlining artist—who used to open for musicians including Luke Combs, Justin Moore, Miranda Lambert—had an infectious onstage energy that riled up the Stetson and Tecovas’ wearing crowd; choruses were often drowned out when fans loudly sung along.

The former bull rider’s traditional country influences of George Strait, Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard shined bright with his straight forward studio matching live vocals.

With a wide smile, Johnson often ran across the stage to briefly stop and rock out with fellow bandmates, while also pausing to acknowledge roaring fans in the pit. Every one on stage and in the crowd were undeniably having fun.

The set included a friendly introduction to the band members and covers of Bruce Robinson’s “Travelin’ Soilder,” the late Charlie Daniel’s “Long Haired Country Boy” and a heartfelt patriotic rendition of Katherine Lee Bates’ “America The Beautiful.”

Fans left exhilarated by the performance and already geared up and ready to attend any of Johnson’s future tours.

Night One openers had well-received performances by Tennessee country singer songwriters Larry Fleet (co-writer of Morgan Wallen, Eric Church song “Man Made A Bar”) and Drew Baldridge (supporting his major-label debut Farm Faith Family via BBR Music Group / BMG Nashville).

Night Two openers are Ian Munsick and Walker Montgomery.
