Southern Maryland metalcore quintet Omen//Skye—managed by Core Collective Talent Agency—recently released their hard hitting new single for “Further” (Arson Theory), accompanied by a music video.
Lead vocalist Nick Troisi took time out for an extensive OOTB Interview to detail the song and music video. Troisi also shares the band’s writing process, his metal music origins, artists he’d like to tour with and he tells us what’s next for Omen//Skye.
When writing music with the band in general, where do you typically start as far as layering and throwing in cohesive transitions?
“Further” in particular was written almost solely by our guitarist and mastermind Joshua Grzywacz—he is the creative force behind most of our songs.
Stylistically, he was heavily influenced by the band Humanity’s Last Breath while writing “Further.”
His inspiration behind this track came from his affinity for cosmic horror and the occult. He loved being at the helm for what seems almost like his very own horror story, conveyed through song.
The protagonist is that of an individual who desires ultimate knowledge of the universe, only to be met with instant regret after making a pact with a demonic presence.
SPOILER ALERT!!! A sequel to this song will be coming in 2027 on our very next album release.
As it pertains to our current release cycle, this EP is titled The Thoughts That Haunt Us. The metaphor of regret, hubris, narcissism, and naivety are present throughout this song.
The album’s overall theme is to touch on very real, sometimes haunting emotions we as humas experience every day.
We have attempted to put these themes into an elaborate musical packaging, hopefully deciphered by our audience.
Our music, in general, is usually composed by Josh first, and sometimes Dom, our bass player.
Then, lyrics are written to flow in a unique and ear-catching manner. Josh, Dom and myself are the primary lyric composers.
When the skeleton of the song is complete, Dillon our drummer, maps out a punishing drum section to complete each track.
Who is the guest vocalist you collaborated with on “Further” and how did that feature come together?
The feature on this track is our dear friend Justin Davenport!
He is the vocalist of two incredible bands: Nullified and Echoes InEternity. Nullified we have had the pleasure of playing with several times.
Justin’s vocals are easily some of the best out of any local act in the state of Maryland. We hoped he would consider collaborating with us so that our fans would get the chance to hear his talents on full display. Hopefully, widening the audience of his projects as well!
His vocals remind me very much of some of my favorite deathcore vocalists growing up. Mitch Lucker in particular.
He may be a few years younger than us, but I see a long bright future for this young man!
If you could co-headline a tour with any current band, what band would you like to share the stage with and why them?
Looking forward into the future, I would love for us to get on the level of opening for some of the bigger names in the modern metalcore realm.
Some professional level bands that I think would make the most sense style-wise would be bands like: Like Moths To Flames, The Plot In You and Silent Planet.
I think Omen//Skye’s unique sonic identity would pair well with those acts.
What album or band turned you into a metalhead and why that album or band?
Early on, my father introduced me to bands like Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin and I knew I gravitated to music that had a harder edge to it.
As I got into my high school years, I fell in love with bands like Lamb Of God and August Burns Red.
Ashes Of The Wake by Lamb of God and Messengers by August Burns Red were the albums I listened to most in my formative years!
What are your plans and goals for the last half of 2026? What can we look for next?
To round out 2026, we will be releasing three more singles. Each track should be about seven weeks apart. Releasing singles seems to be the way you keep your audience on the edge of their seats nowadays.
We will be playing a few more shows in the Mid-Atlantic region and gearing up for a big push in 2027.
Expect a new album to drop early next year (following the same pattern with dropping single after single for listener retention).
2027 should be a big year for touring. So we may be coming to a city near you!
Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Thank you so much for the opportunity and expressing interest in what we’re creating.
We love making music and we sincerely hope that it changes a few lives for the better in the process.
Keep your eyes and ears out for future releases and hopefully we get to perform live for you all very soon!
