42 Dugg and Babyface Ray—both in their early 30’s and both from Detroit’s 6-Mile East Side—stopped in Columbus, Ohio at KEMBA Live! on Tuesday, June 2 as part of their heavyweight hip-hop tour: 4 The Trenches—described by the duo as not just a tour, but a statement: “It's for every block, every corner, every city that raised us [and] for the ones who never left and the ones who made it out. It represents the grind, the come-up, and the reality of turning struggle into success.”

The bass was rattling the walls and the energy was alive and well as fans waved their cell phones in the air, danced all over and shouted lyrics throughout each street rap headliner’s performance, as well as during opening artist Jorjiana’s set, who hails from Indiana.

Backed by a DJ and large video screen while decked out in Trenches’ gear, Babyface Ray (Marcellus Register) moved from one side of the stage to the other, firing up the crowd and performing upbeat fan favorites along with some laidback cuts.

Since releasing his first mixtape in 2015, the artist’s collaborations have included: Veeze, Moneybagg Yo, G.T., Pusha T, Future, Big Sean, Lil Yachty.

Leaving his past behind and continuing to move forward and focus on music, 42 Dugg (Dion Hayes) dominated the mic with his distinct sound; performing songs from his studio album and mixtapes, including his latest recording collection: Part 3

Often smiling at the crowd and sporting his “42” necklace, he also performed songs from Free Dem Boyz, to celebrate the five-year anniversary of the chart-topping breakthrough project featuring songs “Bestfriends,” “4 Da Gang,” and “Maybach.”

His collabs since entering the scene in 2017 include: GloRilla, Lil Baby, Future, Roddy Ricch, EST Gee, G Herbo.

Late last month, 42 Dugg released a remix of “Thick One,” featuring fellow Detroit rappers Skilla Baby and Kash Doll.

Between sets, the music never stopped as a hype man and DJ kept the party moving with a back-to-back mix of tracks by hip-hop hitmakers.

The 29-city tour just kicked off and concludes in their hometown of Detroit, Michigan at The Fillmore on July 31.
