Review & Photos: Corrosion Of Conformity in Lakewood, Ohio

By David Desin, OOTB Publications

Corrosion of Conformity turned The Roxy at Mahall’s into a wall of volume, sweat, and Southern-fried metal fury at their sold-out May 10th show.

Mahall’s proved to be the perfect setting—close quarters, low ceilings, and nowhere to hide from the sheer force of the band’s sound. Fans packed shoulder-to-shoulder screamed along to every lyric, beers raised high as the riffs thundered across Lakewood, Ohio.

Pepper Keenan still sounds incredible. His voice carried the same gravelly authority that helped define C.O.C.’s classic era, balancing bluesy grit with hardcore bite.

Whether Keenan was snarling through old favorites or introducing material from the band’s newly released eleventh studio album, Good God/Baad Man, Keenan commanded the room effortlessly.

Age hasn’t dulled his delivery; if anything, it’s added more weight and character.

The new songs fit naturally beside the classics.

Tracks from Good God/Baad Man, released in April, leaned heavily into the swampy groove-metal sound the band perfected in the ‘90s while still carrying enough raw punk aggression to avoid sounding overly polished. Live, the material hit even harder.

The audience reacted like these songs had already been in rotation for years, especially during the crushing mid-tempo sections that shook the floor beneath the crowd.

What made the performance stand out wasn’t just technical precision,—though the band was locked in all night—but the sense that Corrosion of Conformity still genuinely enjoys playing together.

There was no over-rehearsed stage production, no elaborate visuals, no filler. Just towering amps, thunderous drums, and riffs delivered with absolute conviction.

The setlist smartly balanced eras of the band’s catalog. Older material sparked chaotic singalongs, while newer songs demonstrated that C.O.C. isn’t content living off legacy alone.

The transitions between sludge, Southern rock, hardcore, and doom elements felt seamless, a reminder of how influential the band remains across multiple heavy music scenes.

By the encore, the room was drenched in sweat and exhaustion, but nobody seemed ready for it to end. The sold-out crowd roared for every final note, fully aware they had witnessed one of those rare club shows where a veteran band sounds every bit as dangerous and relevant as they did decades earlier.

At The Roxy, Corrosion of Conformity didn’t just perform a concert; they delivered a statement: heavy music built on riffs, authenticity, and pure volume never goes out of style.
