Review & Photos: Raven in Lakewood, Ohio

The walls of Mercury Music Lounge in Lakewood, Ohio shook with pure, heavy metal on Saturday, April 11, as Raven took the stage and delivered a performance that proved exactly why they’ve remained legends in the genre for decades.

From the moment they kicked into their set, you felt that old-school metal spirit.

You can instantly tell that brothers Mark and John Gallagher have spent a lifetime playing together. There’s a tightness and instinct between them that only comes from years on the road and in the studio, which they have released 12 studio albums.

Mark was absolutely killing it on guitar, ripping through riffs and solos with precision and fire, while John unleashed some truly wild vocals that cut through the room with raw power. Their interplay was electric—effortless, yet explosive—and it kept the crowd locked in.

And then, there’s Mike Heller on drums—a total powerhouse. His playing drove the entire set with relentless force, perfectly complementing the Gallagher brothers while adding his own intensity to the mix.

All together, the trio sounded massive; far bigger than the room itself, delivering that classic Raven sound with zero compromise.

What made the night even better was what happened after the final notes rang out. Getting to hang out with the band, talk music, and snag a couple of autographs made the experience feel unforgettable. It’s not every day you get that kind of access to musicians who’ve helped shape a genre.

More than anything, the show was a reminder of why bands like Raven still matter. They’re out there touring, playing with passion, and keeping the old-school metal flame alive for longtime fans and new listeners alike.

If this performance was any indication, they’re not slowing down anytime soon.
