Whether it be a hippy fest, a psychedelic fest or just a groovy time, we are all ready for the upcoming season.
This American psychedelic alt rock band formed in Portland, Oregon in 1994 by members Courtney Taylor-Taylor (lead vocals / guitar) and Pete Holmstrom(guitarist).
In 1997, they were signed by Capitol Records with the album debut of …The Dandy Warhols Come Down. They were also subject of the documentary film Dig.
Current members include Zia McCabe (keyboard, bass) and Brent DrBoer (drums/lead vocals).
Each member share in singing throughout the album and each member plays a multitude of instruments. The talent is endless.
Pin Ups is the perfect name for the album, as it covers many of the greatest singers and bands of all time.
To cover Bob Dylan, The Beatles and then throw in a little Marilyn Manson… crazy! However, they turned “The Beautiful People” into something entirely different, yet equally eerie. At one point it sounded as though the singer was submerged in water. Surprised and delighted I was by the sound.
The Dandy Warhols brought many different angles to these classics. I heard girl punk, I heard groovy, outer spacey, funky, and psychedelic.
“Blackbird” (Beatles cover song) drifted me off into a trance like state. Calm and relaxed—it was mesmerizing.
So bring on the Spring weather and festivals and outdoor music. Pop this bad boy on your Playlist for the drive. Get geared up and let’s gooooooooo!
