The one and only GWAR—comprised of: Bonesnapper, Beefcake The Mighty, Grodius Maximus, Blöthar The Berserker, Jizmak Da Gusha, BälSäc The Jaws ‘o Death, Sawborg Destructo—flooded Newport Music Hall and drenched a packed audience in Columbus, Ohio on March 29 as part of the outer space hellion’s Gor-Gor Strikes Back Tour with Soulfly and King Parrot.

The sometimes controversial—always satirical—sci-fi heavy metal band has toured relentlessly since the 80’s and show no sign of slowing.

Attendees are never let down by the band’s trademark current events’ antics—everyone in attendance is entertained by humorous, raunchy interludes and phony onstage massacres of political government figures and celebrities; during which the crowd opens their arms and close their eyes to bask in showers of fake blood and fake bodily fluids, giving fans a memorable experience like no other.

Sunday night was no different. GWAR delivered a top notch, jaw dropping, laugh out loud performance and showcased their remarkably experienced musicianship, never missing a beat.

Costumed gory theatric decapitations included: an ICE agent, a priest, a trucker, former Secretary Of Homeland Security, current POTUS and others. In the past, they have “executed” Biden, Musk, Obama, Hillary, bin Laden and Netanyahu, among many others.

Songs performed included: “Metal Metal Land,” “Sick Of You,” “Tormentor,” “Hail, Genocide,” “Mother Fuckin’ Liar,” “Tyrant King,” their recent viral “Pink Pony Club” cover and a slew of other songs.

Earlier in the evening, thrash groove metal veterans Soulfly—led by legendary vocalist, guitarist Max Cavalera with his son Zyon on drums—rocked fans with a classic set.

Cavalera encouraged a circle pit during “Prophecy” (and the crowd happily honored the request), the band performed a portion of Deftones’ “Headup,” (which was co-written by Cavalera with Chino Moreno and includes a “fly high/soul fly” lyrical shout) and they closed their set with an extended version of hit track “Eye For An Eye.”

Prior to Soulfly, Australian grind thrashers King Parrot took the stage for an energetic set. Eyes were on crowd engaging frontman Matthew Young, who jumped off stage toward the barricade to scream in front of fans. Humorously, Young also mooned the crowd.

The quartet performed songs from their four albums, including a couple tracks from last year’s release, A Young Person's Guide To King Parrot, with an enjoyable crowd singalong to: “Fuck You And The Horse You Rode In On.”

The tour concludes April 29.
