This band here has a special place in my heart, not only because they are so talented, but because they come from my neck of the woods here in Licking County, Ohio.
Having been a fan since their Lost Past Everest days, I was extremely excited to hear their new project: I’m Trying.
They had lost a member and I wasn’t sure what the future had in store for Jake Early and Korey Worth. The long time friends have such a rare brotherhood between the two.
Anyone in the industry knows how hard it is to be in the business; it takes hard work and dedication and a sense of survival.
When I asked Jake how I’m Trying came to be, he responded: “It started out as some weird purgatory. This turned into a phone call between Korey and I and one studio date to record a demo which ended up being our first single.”
Now, their goal is to finish and release an album this year.
They also added members: Phil Zitko (drums), Zach Chrisman (bass), and Justin Doe (guitar). Along with Jake Early on vocals and Korey Worth on guitar.
Jake Early has the perfect voice and sound that resonates emo and rock. Honestly there isn’t any genre he wouldn’t be good for—from rock, poppy to do whop!
With all the years these boys have put into music and shows, it’s no surprise that I could easily see them performing large festivals.
Takes me back to the old Vans Warped Tour days with Black Veil Brides and Sleeping With Sirens newly on scene.
Thus far, the four songs released are bangers. Being so relatable and sad, yet inspiring and hopeful.
“Soft Lies” is my favorite—about success and failure, how aging and growing has some low lows.
I’m Trying is getting a big fat 5 star review from me for all four songs. Give them a listen, add them to your playlist. Support local music.
I’m Trying performs with Bobaflex, Sybils Silence, Turning Tydes on Friday, April 10 at American Legion, 100 Central Ave., Williamstown, West Virginia.
