Interview: Oswald's Revenge, Andy, Mike, Jimmy

By Neil Shumate, OOTB Publications

Long Island, New York rock trio Oswald’s Revenge—Andy Sexton (vocals, lyrics), Mike Wahmann, Jimmy Gerovac (guitar)—continue to cause buzz with their debut full-length album which was released alongside a one-of-kind coloring book, as well as their recent cover of Taylor Swift’s “CANCELLED!,” from Swift’s 12th studio album The Life Of A Showgirl.

Each band member’s individual personality shined as they took time out to dish on the band’s name, the new cover song, their recent coloring book album release, plans throughout the year and much more.

First off, who is Oswald and what is he seeking revenge for?

Andy - I am Oswald. You are Oswald. We’re all Oswald. Oswald is anyone out there who can live in the world we live in and still see the positive, and still have a good time. The revenge? Well isn’t living good the best revenge?

Mike - Exactly. People do other people dirty all the time. Those who have been done wrong: pick yourself up, dust yourself off, move forward and thrive without them in your life. You know they’re keeping tabs…

Jimmy - Oswald is we, Revenge is a dish best served cold… like popsicles, but not exactly like popsicles, because it can also be served hot or lukewarm, which is the lamest of all the temperatures, but still works, so more like pizza, which is awesome at all temps. Oswald’s Revenge is like good pizza. At least we aim to be.

After listeners hear your songs, what are three adjectives you hope fans will have to describe their listening experience?

Andy - aroused, titillated, concupiscent

Mike - inspired, stimulated, hyped

Jimmy - intrigued, dazzled, bewitched

Of all the Taylor Swift songs, how did you decide on “Cancelled” as the one to cover?

Andy - Two main reasons. First off, Taylor JUST put this song out, so we wanted to see if we could ride her algorithm wave. This did not work. But, second, and more importantly, if you listen to the original there was an absolutely bad ass rock song in there just waiting to be heard.

Mike - Yeah, Jimmy had pitched the idea and it’s very rare that the three of us give a hard “no” to anything suggested. Upon first listen, I saw so much could be done with it to give it a little bit of “zzaz” to it!

Jimmy - I teach voice lessons and one of my younger students had been working on nothing but KPop Demon Hunter songs for about two months; when she came in wanting to sing stuff off of the new Taylor Swift record, I was excited for something new and love a good pop song. When she had me put on “Cancelled!,” I felt a kinship with Ms. Swift, as I too like my friends cancelled… and, I mean, come on, the song clearly wanted to be a rock song. I floated the idea and the guys said “yes” and we went for it!

How did you collaborate to form the fun unique idea of releasing limited coloring books as part of your album package and how was it received?

Andy - When Jimmy has a good idea, we listen. So far, the run has been stupendous and this is something we will never get sick of reprinting. Get yours today!

Mike - Yeah, it’s another Jimmy suggestion. It’s really how we set ourselves apart from everyone else. We also have all been in bands that have printed a thousand CDs, and we’re still sitting in a few hundred many years later. We love tangible copies, but just wanted to re-invent how we did that. I fell in love with the idea right away.

Jimmy - People don’t buy CDs anymore and everyone loves to color [smiles], plus, I haven’t seen anyone else doing it; so, we got to do something different and new, which is a rarety in this biz we call show.

What song has your band released that you feel is the best representation of your style and why that song?

Andy - For me, it’s “Hoodie Up.” I’ve always loved a nice mix of beauty and grit, and I think that guy passes the test.

Mike - The same… it’s the one that lured Jimmy into playing with us. It’s just the vibe… heavy but pretty, groove with some head bobbing… it’s got it.

Jimmy - Yeah man, “Hoodie Up” rules. Lyrically, Andy really paints an incredible picture and story, and Mike just nailed the right vibe, musically. The first time I heard it I was like: “OK, I’m joining this band.”

What’s your plans for 2026?

Andy - I am hoping to play GTA 6, but I fear I will be let down.

Mike - Sell more coloring books! They currently reside at my house. So, please. Order yours now at https://oswaldsrevenge.bandcamp.com/merch so I can get them out of my studio.

Jimmy - Invading my two favorite holes on as many new people as I can… It’s the ears you weirdos

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

Andy - I am going to be corny, but thank you to everyone who’s on Team Oswald. We are just getting started!

Mike - Yeah, 2025 was our first year and was so much fun. The most fun I’ve had being in a band. I love working with these guys and love them as people in general; it makes being in a band easy. And that’s not something you hear very often. And of course, to our Team Oswald peeps—the support has been overwhelming and makes us excited to push farther in 2026!

Jimmy - If you gave us a shot, thank you so much; if you became a fan, you absolutely rule! Back to the first question, Oswald is all of us who want to be included and supported—you can be any size, shape, color, gender, age, etc…. we love you and you belong. The revenge is for anyone who believes
