Country-rock South Georgian singer-songwriter Casey Robinson has been in the music scene for nearly 15 years and continues to release new music and perform solo, duo and as a full band—including past supporting spots for major artists: Scotty McCreery, Larry The Cable Guy, Lacie K. Booth, Jeff Foxworthy, Corey Smith and many others.
In this OOTB interview, Robinson discusses his start in music, writing style, most memorable opening performance, metal and country influences, goals for the rest of the year and much more.
When did you first become interested in music and what was it that inspired you to pursue music—a song, an event, etc.?
I was ten-years-old when I started finding an interest in playing drums.
As the years went on, I began listening to heavy metal and really loved everything about music.
I joined bands and eventually started touring the east coast, playing our original music on our dime, solely independent.
In 2012, I decided to pursue my solo career as a country/rock artist.
When you write music, what is the process? Does music come first or the lyrics, or a little of both?
Depending on my situation or mood, it really varies, most of the time I write the lyrics first.
What is your favorite cover song to perform and why that song?
“Can’t Ya See” by The Marshal Tucker band is my go-to favorite cover song; it’s so fun because most of the time I can include the crowd for a sing-a-long.
You’ve provided support for many artists, which opening spot stands out to you the most and why so?
As you said, I’ve provided support for multiple major artists, the one that stands out the most is when I opened up for Corey Smith at The Martin Theatre in Douglas, Georgia.
It was most memorable because of the venue; the acoustics are impeccable in that beautiful piece of history. I strongly recommend it to anyone who is in the area.
Who are your biggest musical inspirations—artists and bands?
This is difficult to answer because I have such a wide range in genres that I love dearly.
If I’m sticking with what I’m playing these days, I believe Alan Jackson and Jason Aldean are my biggest influences in country music.
But, I still hold metal really close to my sole, and it has a huge influence on my original songs.
What are your plans and goals for the rest of the year—tours, releases, music videos, etc?
I’ll be playing as many shows as possible this year.
We plan to record a 5-song EP. And, have a music video that will be released at some point this
Is there anything else you’d like to add?
I’ve been asked so many times why I play country music when I have such a background in metal music, it’s pretty simple really.
I grew up here in south Georgia, so it runs in my veins pretty naturally. To be truthful, it’s hard to classify my original music as just “country,” our full band can get pretty heavy at times!
Thanks for taking the time to listen to me ramble about myself.
See you guys on the road!
