Album Review: Lake Point Drive, Press Start To Feel

By James Magill, OOTB Publications

There are a few things in this world that always give me joy: Time with my kids, an ice-cold beverage in a super-hot shower and reaching over in the middle of the night to make sure my wife and dogs are still there. And… early-2000s pop punk.

Columbus-area band Lake Point Drive’s newest EP—Press Start To Feel—dropped Jan. 30 and I was pleasantly surprised by how well it scratched that pop-punk itch.

Six-songs long and clocking in at just over 20-minutes, this offering is solid all the way through.

It warranted me sharing it with a few friends almost immediately, so we could talk about it.

Remember the early days of Warped Tour? When you could watch a dozen different bands you’d never heard of before and walk away with a new favorite?

Lake Point Drive is good enough to be that band—especially if pop-punk perfection is your jam.

From the sound-effect-laden intro “Ready Player 2” to the closer “Don’t Look Back,” I wasn’t disappointed once.
