Rochester, New York hardcore rockers An Easy Death are on the verge of releasing a new EP early 2025. Before the record hits platforms, the band completed an interview with OOTB to discuss the band and all things music.
Forming in 2020, what brought the band together at that time?
The easy answer here is the want to be in a band! We were all in our early-mid 30s, most of us were married, had kids, work full time jobs, and what's cooler than playing music in front of people?
What do you hope listeners take from the band’s music and lyrics?
While "the listener" has never been our number one priority as far as what the songs are about, we hope that they can relate to the subject matter.
We don't shy away from any topics when it comes to using our music and the voice we've been given on this platform to be able to freely express our emotions.
We hope that people listening to our music can feel a sense of belonging.
What is your favorite song released that is a must hear for new listeners to define the band’s approach, and why that song?
“Barnstorm.” One of the first songs we released as a band. It captures a lot of our influences and throws them all into one package—from a riffy intro, to harsh aggressive verses, melodic sing along choruses and breakdowns inspired by bands like Norma Jean, it has it all.
What can you share about the upcoming EP? When can fans expect singles or previews, etc?
The EP will be dropping early 2025 (With an exact date of release being announced soon!). It will encompass all the songs we've released so far while also including a newly arranged and updated version of “9-8-8 (It’s Too Late)” and “Barnstorm” as well as a previously unreleased song “Behold A Pale Horse.”
What are your short term plans and goals going into the new year?
While we didn't have much of a plan to start the beginning of the year off, things are starting to fill up pretty fast!
In the short term we are trying to play outside of Western New York (Rochester and Buffalo) more and hopefully continue that trend booking shows out of state. Hopefully sooner than later you'll see us in the tri-state area… Maybe…
Where do you hope to see the band in ten years, long term?
Ten years from now I think all of us can agree that we want to just see ourselves happy. This year or so has been some of the toughest on most of us and we've had a really tough go at it. So if in ten years we're still playing music, we're still friends, we're still going out to dinner, while all those are cool, I think we'd just like to be happy.
Is there anything else you’d like to add?
