Top 5 Feature: Yesterday's Hero

Yesterday's Hero is a hard rock, alt-metal band from Tiffin, Ohio, hailing from the bogs of the black swamp, deep in the cut of corn country. Fueled by backroad burnouts and small town shenanigans, Yesterday's Hero uses a blend of high energy groove combined with timeless melodies to create hooks that will make you hit repeat.

They have shared the stage with many artists, including: Escape The Fate, D.R.U.G.S., Powerman 5000, The World We Know, The Convalescence, Texas Hippie Coalition, Red, Gemini Syndrome.

The band’s next show is 7pm this Saturday, Nov. 23 at The Viaduct (84 N. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio). At the concert, they will be filming a new music video for “What I Needed,” their last single from their Nov. 2023 Ways To Hate full length album (produced, mixed, mastered by Joe Viers at Sonic Lounge Studio), which followed their 2021 debut EP, Killing Me. They will also perform Friday, Dec. 13 with Bunny The Bear at Harpos (14238 Harper Ave., Detroit, Michigan).

Yesterday’s Hero currently have new tracks already in pre-production and will be releasing a new single every 6-8 weeks. The five-member band recently released a video for their current album’s title track.

Top 5 Concerts seen by Tony

1. NIN with Marilyn Manson and Jim Rose Circus in Muncie, Indiana 1994?

Ok, this show is number one on my list for several reasons. First, it was a lot of firsts! First time going to a concert, first time driving out of state, first time smoking devil lettuce, first time I ever heard or seen Marilyn Manson! I was a huge NIN fan and they delivered! If you had the chance to experience the Downward Spiral Tour, no explanation needed; it was special. However, MM was a game changer. They were pushing Portrait Of An American Family and that was their set, epic and impressionable!

2. Ozzfest ‘97 at Polaris Amphitheater

It was an awesome lineup and day of music, but the riot at the end of the night sealed this one to the memories.

3. Type O Negative at The Asylum in Toledo, Ohio

I love small venue shows. Type-O showed up with enough sound for the sports arena and destroyed my hearing with one of the loudest shows I can remember! The perk of a small venue is access to the band. I stood by Peter… that dude was huge! What a killer band!

4. Foo Fighters 20th Anniversary show in D.C.

This show was in D.C. on the Fourth Of July. It was a very eclectic lineup: Heart, LL Cool J, Gary Clark Jr, DC trouble Funk and trombone Shorty… it was wild. The Foo played a crazy long set and reminded me of all their hits. Two plus hours of songs everyone knew the words to. Dave broke his leg and had a motorized throne most will remember! That was a fantastic trip with my amazing wife, I will never forget.

5. Hatebreed and Killswitch Engage at Headliners in Toledo, Ohio

This is the first time I got to see Killswitch. In my opinion they are the perfect band. The memory for this night was very special... it’s the night I hit on my future wife!
