Review & Photos: lovelytheband, Mod Sun bring upbeat Here's Your Flowers Tour to Columbus

Last night, Los Angeles indie-alt trio lovelytheband and rocker-rapper Mod Sun brought their energetic 30-date co-headlining Here’s Your Flowers Tour to Columbus, Ohio at Newport Music Hall along with opening support from indie songwriter and producer No Love For The Middle Child and Missouri hip-hop artist honestav. 


Notes about the show:


No Love For The Middle Child 

-Blink 182 “I Miss You” cover with recorded loops

-introduced himself: mentioning he has worked with and produced songs for many artists, including: Meek Mill, Zero 9:36, Calboy, Steve Aoki 

-performed new song “One Last Try” 

-performed “No Sleep;” a somber, emotional song with an instrumental cello bow and plucking intro. Before performing the song, he reminded everyone to “check on your friends” 


honestav 

-told the crowd he’s thrilled that everyone knows the lyrics; constant smiling, appreciative, lots of continuous gratitude  

-told the crowd this very first tour he’s ever been on is “changing my life” 

-new EP next month 

-performed  “Paranoia”

-performed “Pressure,” about his dad passing away

-jumped off stage for two songs to be in front of the barricade with the crowd 


Mod Sun

-Non-stop energy, lots of jumping 

-On stage duet with honestav for "I'd Rather Overdose," vocalist Dylan Smith mentioned currently having five years of sobriety

-performed MGK collab “Stay Away;” Smith mentioned MGK is a close friend and feels like Columbus is his second hometown 

-Brought Columbus’ rapper Doobie on stage briefly, who was hanging in the back 

-introduced the full band during “Sunshine” 

-Smith introduced himself: previous drummer for Scary Kids, Scaring Kids, in music for 20 years

-performed “Flames,” cover of Goo Goo Dolls’ “Iris”

-told the crowd “the world needs happier music” right now; mentioned the genre of “hippy hop” that he spent 10 years doing, then performed a lengthy set with songs dating back 18 years

-performed live debut song “The Shake” with harmonica, the song had an upbeat catchy chorus

-vocalist, guitarist Mitchy Collins said there’s nothing better than performing on stage with your best friends after “These Are My Friends” song, then introduced drummer Sam Price and guitarist Jordan Greenwald

-performed new songs from just released (fourth) self-titled album, including: “Nice To Know You,” “What Have I Been Missing,” “Try For You”

-Collins put the guitar away for a few songs here and there to sing while dancing across the stage 

-a couple times Greenwald and Collins went to each side of the stage to jam out

-Collins often paused to introduce songs and interact with the crowd 

-Collins reflected on being a band for eight years and spoke on the significance of mental health before performing and ending the set with most popular 2018 hit, “Broken”
