Jaws dropped last night as The Satch/Vai Tour rumbled and dominated Northfield, Ohio with guitar virtuosos Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. No adjectives can describe the musical journey that both artists took fans through with their various styles, genres, tempos, tunings, effects and tricks.
Numerous guitars operated by both sung loud and clear as fans lost themselves and drowned in the mesmerizing instrumental soundscapes for an hour per artist. Not only was the crowd treated to the solo axe slayers, but also full backing bands that exhibited exceptional, proficient talent.
The guitar heroes had many songs to choose from for their sets, as Satriani has released 18 albums and Vai has released 12 albums. Satriani chose "Surfing With The Alien," "Sahara," "Big Bad Moon" and others. Vai chose "Tender Surrender," "Lights Are On," "Teeth Of The Hydra" and more.
The highlight of the show was a breathtaking closing rock-and-roll jam session for a triumphant 30-minutes of covers and originals, including the duo’s recently released collab, “The Sea Of Emotion, Pt. 1.”
Speaking about the tour, Vai told the crowd he’s been waiting 52 years for this; after all, Satriani and Vai have been friends since before their teens when Satriani used to give Vai guitar lessons, but they’ve never double headlined together, until now.
Every guitar hyperbole and personification that could be attached to the astounding live performance happened: faces were melted, shredding took place and the licks were filthy dirty.
