Celebrating 20 years of their album Away From The Sun, hard rock band 3 Doors Down performed songs from the chart topping breakthrough record, along with other hits, last night at The Rose.

Before performing “Here Without You,” vocalist Brad Arnold reflected on writing the record: “Some of these songs are darker… even though we were in a successful situation with the first album, we were still feeling dark and felt a lack of love, but Jesus Christ has always been there, just remember you are loved, God bless you.”

The robust vocals never faltered and the band remained consistently energetic throughout the 90-minute set, moving from one side of the stage to the other keeping the on-stage fan pit and sold-out crowd entertained.

Arnold graciously thanked the cheering audience after each song, “thank you so much, my friends!”

The band also performed a variety of hit songs outside of Away From The Sun, including: “Be Like That,” “It’s Not My Time,” “Loser” (extended live version), and “Duck And Run.”

Celebrating 30 years as a band, grunge rockers Candlebox are saying goodbye and fans were treated to quite the farewell with many songs from their self-titled 1993 debut, including: “Change,” “Mother’s Dream,” and “Cover Me.”

Vocals were on point, including those Kevin Martin extended wails, and the intermittent guitar solos sounded fresh.

The band performed crowd pleasing new walking-style rock song “What Do You Need?” from their final upcoming eighth album, The Long Goodbye out Aug. 25.

Although Candlebox didn’t perform any acoustic songs, they did release a live “acoustic evening with” album last month, titled Live At The Neptune.

Candlebox closed their hour long set with classic sing alongs “Far Behind” and “You.”

Overall, it was a welcoming close to the work week for many and the summer weather was ideal for an outdoors concert; no smokey wildfire haze, no clouds… just sunshine and rock ‘n roll.
