Following a sonic blast of an intro ("0:00") the five members of I Prevail erupted on stage with "There's Fear In Letting Go" from the band's latest album True Power.

Performing before a sold out crowd—one among a slew of other sold out tour dates—the Michigan band maintained a healthy nu metal fusion of metal, rock, and rap while carrying passion and energy, making for a memorable live performance.

The back and forth vocals, between the heavy metalcore deep growls (wall of death style) of Eric Vanlerbleghe and the lighter active rock sing-rap combo (cell phone lights in the air style) of Brian Burkheiser, never faltered. Vanlerbleghe can sing too; that was proved during the intimate, toned down, live piano ballad “Doomed.”

Before performing “Breaking Down” Burkheiser connected with fans and shared the song’s origin—a personal story about his struggles during his vocal cord injury in 2017 and how he overcame that dark period by reaching out and asking for help from his fellow bandmates and family.

Throughout the performance, Steve Menoian showcased stand-out guitar sections in the spotlight and after “Paranoid” faded, drummer Gabe Helguera performed a short solo. Rhythm guitarist and backing vocalist Dylan Bowman fulfilled the complete live sound with precision.

A large backing video screen, active lighting with laser beams, and bursts of up smoke enforced the vivacious production and added to the phenomenal live sound.

The band focused on songs from True Power (including: “Judgement Day,” "Self-Destruction," “Bad Things,” “FWYTYK”); however, they didn’t leave out Grammy nominated Trauma (including: “Hurricane,” “Bow Down,” “Gasoline”).

At this pace, I Prevail is on the right track to easily headline even larger sold out venues.

Although it’s been five years since Pierce The Veil has toured, they performed with just as much energy and vigor as they did at the 2008 Vans Warped Tour. You could tell the San Diego band has missed performing live.

Vocalist Vic Fuentes and guitarist Tony Perry gave it their all with new song “Pass The Nirvana” and tracks from Misadventures and Collide With The Sky, including hit closing track “King For A Day.”

Bassist Jaime Preciado never stopped, jumping and spinning the entire set. Fuentes riled up the crowd by suggesting a safe circle pit; in which if someone falls down, pick them back up.

The True Power Tour continues through November with Pierce The Veil, Fit For A King, Stand Atlantic and Yours Truly.
