Interview: Bullet To The Heart vocalist Audrey Queen gets personal on new EP, upcoming tour, inspirations

Chicago-based alt-metal hard rockers Bullet To The Heart have been keeping very busy. In August they released their new EP, Trauma (which follows last year’s Death, Oddities and Romance EP and their 2021 LP  Transcendence); they will soon be releasing a new poppier rock song titled “Dreamscape;” and they are currently gearing up for the 17-date Blood & Dreams Tour, kicking off Oct. 17.

Since forming in Jan. 2017, Bullet To The Heart have continued to grow extensively alongside the band’s supportive, accepting fanbase, known as Bloodline.

Before hitting the road this month, vocalist and co-founder Audrey Queen gets personal to discuss her life traumas, the moment she realized she wanted to be in a band and her influences. She also discusses the band’s upcoming tour and new EP.

Considering the new EP title itself, Trauma, and the album being personal on many levels, what traumas have you experienced and how do you, or how have you, coped?

I have experienced quite a lot of trauma throughout my life, but the biggest ones were going through my near death experience and the passing of my uncle, due to overdose. I am still currently coping with it and trying to live my life to the fullest. Playing music and being amongst my bandmates and Bloodline has been a tremendous help on this journey to healing.

What song on the album is your favorite and why that track?

My favorite has to be “Fawn” because of the way it flows and just how catchy it is. It really gets stuck in your brain and has been one of my better works I have written to date.

With the tour kicking off next month, what do you look forward to most with being on the road and what do you think might be a negative with being on the road?

I look forward to meeting new people and spreading the word about Bullet To The Heart. I want to gain as many new Bloodline members as I possibly can. The negative is going to be away from my sweet baby boy, Phoenix. That kitty is my whole world right now and I am going to miss him tremendously.

Who or what are some inspirations or influences you draw from, both musically and with imagery?

Some of my biggest influences are Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam, Amy Lee of Evanescence, Chester Bennington of Linkin Park, and Vessel of Sleep Token. A lot of what inspires me imagery wise is water, the night sky, and galaxies.

What moment and when was it that you told yourself that music is what you want to do?

I was 14 watching the Nickelback music video for “How You Remind Me.” I saw Chad Kroger looking like a rockstar singing and playing the guitar, but also acting in his music video. Right then and there I decided: I wanted to be a rockstar just like him!

Looking ahead, what are some future goals and plans for the band following the upcoming tour?

Some future goals for me are to just be unapologetically us. Drop the gimmicks and just be. We don’t need to impress anyone, we don’t need to be flashy, we just need to enjoy what we are doing and let others know it’s ok to just live. No expectations. Just be you.

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

Please check out our Big Cartel and get you some merch! We have so many amazing things online! Keep up to date with us, catch us at show, say hi, and most importantly just being you is enough! We love you guys so much!
