Review By Neil Shumate, OOTB Publications

If you’re a fan of metal and heavy rock, then this EP will end up in your playlist on repeat. Columbus, Ohio’s Sourblood is no stranger to the music scene, after all, they formed in 2004, and they come through on top yet again with five undeniably phenomenal songs. Each song on The Light will pull you in and keep your interest from start to finish: with the catchy guitars and hardcore vocals of “Set Me Free,” the heavy breakdowns with growls, screams and clean vocals in “Rewind,” the ominous dark groovy metalcore of “Chains Of Hate,” the keys that introduce, interlude and close “Afraid and Alone” to keep a balance that tames the doses of ferocity in the song, and, with the speed of thrash, the massive circle-pit starting title track “The Light.” A no holds barred collection of songs that you won’t be able to get enough of, all mixed with layers of samples and effects that enhance the production. Rating: 5/5

Review By Steve Jones, OOTB Publications

“Set Me Free” feels more like the band I’ve seen live. Much more organic sounding with some good weight. A little Hatebreed coming out on this one. Definitely a killer tune that had my head bobbing. Finished with a nice outro. “Rewind” has an All That Remains feel with a bit of a radio single vibe. Great song. “The Light” has a nice intro and builds into a piece of aggressive metal. There’s a nice breather into a sing along with a jamming breakdown. A little punk vibe in the middle that breaks into some prog. “Feel the weight of the world crashing down on me!” Into a singing chorus with some killer drumming in the background. Another breakdown of the original riff with some nice staccato pace. Neat spacey groove into driving metal with a singing chorus. Breaking into the outro has me on a car ride in the country under the night sky. A solid effort for some long time stalwarts in the scene. Raing: 4/5
