Although it’s been a decade between Dethklok’s Dethalbum releases, the fictional, comedic Metalocalypse cartoon series band led by Nathan Explosion (Brendon Small) & Co. still have it—in terms of both live talent and animated persona. Dressed in black the band remained in the shadows as silhouettes in front of a large video wall that displayed cartoon images of Dethklok’s characters along with various text as they opened with their former Adult Swim TV show theme song; a show that evokes memories and nostalgia for many--the late nights sitting on a couch, watching Cartoon Network. The melodic death metal band brought to life was on point and ferocious last night, bringing the brutal. As presented early on in a video and as a full crowded house of fans proved: Dethklok IS back.

Dragonforce opened with a slew of video game themed samples and slaying guitar solos on a decked out stage that paid homage to dragons and arcade games. The lively British power metal band has been at it since 1999 and they just released their latest album Warp Speed Warriors last month. The band closed with  crowd favorite Guitar Hero 3 track “Through The Fire And Flames.”

California metal band Nekrogoblikon also opened with an entertaining show as all eyes were on the suit and tie goblin-masked clean co-vocalist John Goblikon. The goblin theme songed band formed in 2006 and unclean co-vocalist Dickie Allen brought the harshness.
